From Ear To Ear, Like Eli
Just yesterday, my son Eli graduated from high school. It’s amazing how fast time flies, but it’s also exciting to watch one of your kids reach a milestone like this. You begin to imagine with them what the next chapter will look like,
and what adventures might await.
Eli is such a silly dude. He keeps us laughing with his quick wit and unique hilarity. Our prayer is that all of his God-sized dreams come true.
As I watched him cross the stage and step into a new season, I was reminded of a recent memory we made together. Eli loves Forrest Frank, a gospel-pop artist who’s exploded onto the scene and become a favorite in our youth group. So as an early graduation gift, we surprised Eli and his younger brother Liam with tickets to see Forrest live in Phoenix. We drove out for an overnight adventure and caught the concert together.
We had general admission tickets on the floor, right in the middle of the mosh pit. The sound, lights, staging, band and media were top-tier. But most of all—it was centered on Jesus. Powerfully worshipful. Again and again, I glanced over at Eli. He was glowing. Worshiping. Jumping. Dancing. Smiling from ear to ear!
Nothing makes a dad happier than that.
My prayer is that in all the years ahead, Eli will keep looking forward with that same sparkle in his eye and smile on his face. That he’ll live with a heart full of worship and love, with a willingness to dance, jump, and raise his hands unashamed—because Jesus is good, was good, and always will be good. And that I’ll get to be by his side for lots of adventures!
And I think that’s God’s heart for all His graduates—all His beloved kids.
Fullness.
Joy.
Adventure — with Him by our side.
He wants us to receive all He has for us and enjoy all He has done. He wants to glance over—because He’s near, right by our side—and see us soaking in the joy of the life He’s given us and the promises He faithfully keeps.
So if you’re walking across a stage this week—or stepping into any kind of new chapter, seen or unseen—do it in an ear-to-ear, Eli kind of way. Bask in the goodness. Celebrate the moment to the max!
And remember: the Lion of Judah really, really loves you.
He loves glancing over and seeing you smile from ear to ear.
He’s proud to be your Father—just like I’m so proud to be Eli’s.
