Crispy

Some of our littlest lions received brand new school uniforms this week, and let me tell you…they were CRISPY!  I was never able to sort out Chifubu-level creases on my trousers and shirt when I was in the fire academy.  Charity and our team are straight-up pros!

Our kiddos play hard, and walk to and from school — some over surprising distances — so their uniforms get worn out fast!  But our team stays on top of these details.  Small things, but important ones.  We want our little lions to know that they are special.  That they have a team behind them, fully believing in them, and that even small details matter.  We want them to be at their best when they go to school and sit in class.

There’s a shift that happens when a child feels supported, seen, cared for, loved and accepted.  They start believing they’ve got what it takes, they’re lovable, unique, capable, and super smart — and they are!

At Orchard, we stand on the powerful promise of Jeremiah 29:11, for all those in our care, on our teams, and really anyone within the sound of our voice.  We regularly remind them, and ourselves, that God is saying, “I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.” (The Message)

That verse, and powerful promise gives all of God’s children, you and I included, dignity and joy.  I’ve heard it said before that hope floats, and if a little thing like fresh, crispy trousers can provide a little buoyant hope, then we’re in!  We’ll do what it takes.  We will notice needs.  We will starch and crease the heck out of those things so our lions know they’re loved!  Small things are big things.

Lions, let’s help others put their best foot forward this week.  Let’s do the same ourselves.  Let’s face our days with more confidence.  And let’s stand a little taller by the simple perspective shift that our future is a good and hope-filled one.  God is on our side, He knows what He is doing, and we are never alone!

Now that will keep you crispy!
