11 Million Reasons
Zambia is a nation close to our hearts. It is also one of the youngest nations on earth which means it is one of the most unbelievably wild and fun nations on earth, too!
52%…more than half of Zambia’s population, is under the age of 18. That’s an estimated 11-12 million children and teenagers who represent next generation leaders and lions! That’s a lot of reasons to keep at it, to keep working, and to keep on keeping on!
The future is now and our heart is that, across the nation — in overcrowded classrooms, on dusty football pitches, out in the wild bush and distant villages, as well as in the colorful and noisy markets of her compounds and cities, Zambia’s children and youth would meet Jesus, and the hope and joy and purpose and love and acceptance and life He brings! May they rise, run, and roar in power!
Because Zambia is strategic and important, so is Orchard’s work to extend the love of Jesus and equip young lions! Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” And he placed his hands on their heads and blessed them before he left. — Matthew 19:14–15
When others saw children as an interruption, Jesus welcomed them. When others tried to move them out of the way, Jesus brought them close. He placed His hands on their heads and blessed them. He even declared that the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to these little guys. Children have always been close to the heart of God and Jesus made them central to his ministry on earth.
That’s because the years of childhood and adolescence are an incredibly strategic window of opportunity. Foundations are being laid. Identity is being formed and values are taking shape. Young people need to learn who they are and whose they are, and they need to know that their lives are important and purpose-filled! Their young hearts are like wet cement. What an incredible opportunity it is to introduce them to Jesus during this time. Throughout our entire adult lives, it has been our privilege to invest in children and young people around the world.
